Mac ユーザの動画の楽しみの幅を広げてくれる QuickTime コンポーネント、Perian がアップデート。
初めて使用する人は、環境設定パネルの Perian.prefPane をダブルクリックでインストールして、
「Install Perian」ボタンをクリックすると、Perian.component を所定の場所（ユーザ名/ライブラリ/QuickTime）にインストールしてくれます。
Perian のインストールにより、AVI, FLV, 3ivX, DivX, Flash Screen Video, MS-MPEG4, Sorenson H.263, Truemotion VP6, Xvid など、多くの形式の動画が QuickTime で再生可能に。YouTube などで使われている FLV ファイルをダウンロードしておけば、QuickTime Player にドラッグ＆ドロップで再生できるようになります。
ダブルクリックで QuickTime Player で開くようにするには関連付けが必要です。RCDefaultApp を使えば、簡単に複数のファイル形式のデフォルトアプリケーションを QuickTime Player に設定できます。
QuickTime の Pro 版（有料）にしていれば、QuickTime Player で簡単な編集や、複数のファイルを結合（merge）して QuickTime ムービーで書き出すことが可能になります。
QuickTime を利用する動画編集ソフトでも利用できるようになります。
